Dr. Jitesh Kar, MD, MPH, is a board-certified, fellowship-trained neurologist who provides exceptional care to his patients at the Neurology Institute of Huntsville in Huntsville, Alabama. Dr. Kar specializes in adult neurology, really enjoys diagnostic neurology, and has a special interest and fellowship training in neuromuscular diseases.
Dr. Kar completed his Bachelor of Science in Medicine and Surgery at Grant Medical College & J.J. Hospital in Mumbai, which is among the oldest and most respected medical institutions in India. He then pursued his Masters in Public Health at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, before undertaking his internship in internal medicine residency at New York Medical College/Metropolitan Hospital in New York City where he was awarded as “The resident with the best communication and interpersonal skills”. Dr. Kar completed a residency in Neurology at the University of Texas Medical Center at Houston, where he served as the chief resident where he received multiple prestigious awards including “Frank M. Yatsu award for Excellence in Clinical Neurology”, “The Best Resident as a Teacher”, “Recipient of Arnold P. Gold Foundation Award for Resident Excellence in Humanism and Teaching for 2013 & 2014”.
Dr. Kar worked in Huntsville from 2014 to 2019 was affiliated with Huntsville Hospital. He continues to teach UAB Medical students, FM, and IM residents. He received “ARGUS” Award for Best Clinical Educator in Community” at UAB Huntsville Campus 2017.
Dr. Jitesh Kar returned to the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where he received his fellowship training in neuromuscular and autonomic disorders.
Dr. Kar maintains active memberships with the American Academy of Neurology, the Alabama Academy of Neurology, American Association of Neuromuscular and Electrodiagnostic Medicine, Medical Association of State of Alabama, and the Medical Society of Madison County, among other affiliations.
When he is not busy helping patients at the Neurology Institute of Huntsville, Dr. Kar enjoys spending time with his family and pursuing his creative side through portrait photography. One of his photographs was selected as the cover for the Annals of Internal Medicine, and another was accepted into the art gallery at Memorial Hermann hospital in Houston, Texas.
